CeeKay is the representation of what the realness, energy, diversity and open-mind in hiphop and the music world nowadays. In a time where we live in a "fast-food society" with no real personalities just trends after trends, the originally New Yorker, now located to LA rapper is the kind of artist who has the ability to come up with some next level sound. Not to mention the armies of young listeners who are tired of the of commercial rap that is out there and eager to finally hear some real, new, and fresh sound. CeeKay understands it fully, because thats how he used to be back in the day: growing up on House Of Pain, KRS One, Dead Kennedys and Agnostic Front at the same time, that alone shows how important it is to him to not see the label but the true power and message behind the songs. Already a well-experienced musician, the tremendous passion for hiphop brought him to start writing and emceeing around 14 or 15 years old, and never stopped since then. Thus far the single biggest chapter was Tabularasa. CeeKay dropped 2 albums with the group and toured heavily nationwide during the time they were together. "It definitely made the person I am today, not only musically, but personally", explains the emcee. But as much as he will be always down to work again with the ex-band, new beginning is here. A long- awaited solo mixtape "R.Maris Returns Vol. 1" came out in 2007 and it is the documentary evidence of all the values he stands for as an artist and human. The material executivly produced by Nigel Starr among others, it features the likes of KRS-One, Mad Lion, Danny Diablo and Big Left. From the pure hiphop anthem "Take Advice" through the old-school flavoured remix of "Paper Route" to the bone-crushing hardcore hiphop banger "Bloodshed Part 2" this disc is what all the real hiphop heads are asking for. "Its mainly a body of work that I have been sitting on and slowly compiling for the last few years. I wanted to show the people my various styles of emceeing and who I'm running with." summarizes the rapper about the idea behind this project. "Its more of a solo record than it is a Mixtape. There is actually only one track that is a remix and the rest is original production." Besides building a strong solo career, CeeKay is busy workin on 2 group efforts. In the near past the rapper teamed up with Limp Bizkit's John Otto, DJ Apokalypze, Finbar and fellow Tabularasa drummer Norm to give a birth to one of todays most original and unique bands, "Stereo Chemix". "Its an amazing band and project" he adds, "What we're doing is just collaborating styles of music that everyone in the group likes, and making it work into one thing." How excited are the members? "The more time we spend in the studio the wilder the sound becomes, and its really a cool thing to be apart of." Of course he doesnt forget about one of the strongest element he loves, and this is the raw, uncompromising and dark hardcore hiphop, presented by The Shotblockers. When we check out the lineup of Danny Diablo, Puerto Rican Myke, G-Fella, CeeKay etc. it is solid proof that all we get is nothing but real hardcore. At last but not least, as an Irish and Scottish American kid, he was a die-hard House Of Pain fan, identifying with their sound and heritage. And, years after to become the living legend Dannyboy's friend and part of the extended La Coka Nostra family seems a natural process. 2008 seems busy and beautiful for CeeKay. Besides his group albums, the main focus is the upcoming solo debut on Suburban Noize Records, called "The Introduction". "I'm really trying to make an album that will stand for everything I am as an artist." thats how he feels about it. "I'm not only just a Hip-hopper, I'm a musician and songwriter. This solo album will no doubt encompass all styles of music I do, and have many amazing artists featured on it." After all this, whats the mission of this amazing artist? "Music is my Blood, and Hip-hop is my catalyst. As long as I'm breathing I'm gonna be putting out new shit....." Written by-Bela Nagy
